Art quilts with kimono and sashiko stitching.
I wanted to work in a black and white pallet for this series, keeping the design simple but having many layers. This was challenging and rewarding on many levels. The texture, as well as color, was important in adding more layers, building depth.

Silk scarves
These scarves have been dyed, and then stamped, foiled and silkscreen with designs that I have created. I also create fabric for my art quilts. Many of my designs are inspired by visits to countries as diverse as Mexico, Peru, Morocco and Egypt.

Art Quilts
This is one of a series of quilts made in my ongoing attempts at simplification. The Electric Ellipses quilts are based on a series of circles and rectangles in which the colors are juxtaposed to create maximum impact. The three fabrics in this quilt are from my Gradations collection for Benartex. The quilting was done in organic patterns, which make the circles look like part of a microscopic organism. The small circles are quilted with a pebbly pattern in the colors of the background fabrics, making the pebble shapes appear to float. A fourth fabric from the Gradations collection was used for the binding. The back is a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted fabric.

Felted Wearables and Home Decor
I’ve replaced traditional “tailoring” with hand-processed felting. Felting and shrinkage are natural properties of wool. The ability to control these properties in order to produce a non-woven fabric with the desired character is a kind of alchemy. I finely sculpt dense fabrics that are light-weight and suitable for the movement required in elaborate coats & vests, or produce a thick, dense, ‘hardened’ material suitable for headdresses and vessels.

Mixed media and fabric art
I love to experiment with fabric and paint to create abstract art - coiling, curving, and twisting colors to create organic designs. Sometimes, I re-create these designs on fabrics, blending fibers and threads and using free motion embroidery to stitch, appliqué, and quilt my designs. “It’s never too late to explore and begin new adventures of the imagination.”

Scarves, kitchen towels, pillows, cane wrapped rocks
I create one of a kind hand dyed art. Shape resist dyeing has led me in many directions exploring the way dye takes to fiber or fabric. Each type of fiber reacts in its own way and with botanical dyes there are lots of possibilities from one plant with some expected and some unexpected results. Exploring a range of possibilities is exciting, even if it is a slow process.

Prints, note cards, ECO stickers, magnets
Wurm Wares by Erika Wurm(me) was started in 2015 as a place where I could let my inner child create while celebrating my perfectly silly last name. I am an eco conscious mixed media artist that likes to use as much repurposed materials as possible, to challenge myself but also reduce waste in my studio. My work is inspired by Nature, and usually highlights endangered species of flora/fauna with a touch of whimsical humor.

Felted and beaded necklaces
To make my necklaces, I first create merino wool felted balls which are decorated with seed beads that I sew on one at a time. I then add regular beads, either contemporary, vintage or ethnic, that I have selected that suit the project. I string a selection of these beads together along with other beads to make the necklaces. This is a pleasurable activity and as most projects are small, they are easy to travel with. I have a large variety of necklaces to choose from.

Garments, origami note cards
Reuse, recycle, and re-imagine is my adage. I hand-paint paper, sheet music and Japanese newspapers, and fold them into origami to embellish note cards. I also knit copper wire scavenged from electronics factories, design with illustrations from vintage magazines and transform simple garment styles with fabric manipulation and image transfers.
Shipping not available for garments; pick up at window by appointment or on Oct. 23

Purses are quilted, lined, cross-body bags, made of pieced and appliquéd cotton. Free-motion machine and hand stitching provide stability and enhancement. Closures include zippers, buttons, or hook and loop tape. Tote bags feature raw-edge appliqué and boro stitching.
Abstract and landscape images on felt with hand-dyed cheesecloth , embroidered with cotton and rayon threads, and embellished with wrapped cords, beads, and couched threads. Ready to hang with hook and loop slats, or to mount and frame if preferred
Fabric and fiber constitute an art medium with an infinite palette of color, mood, and texture. My fiber collages start with fabric—from grab bags, from my collection of scraps, from what my artist friends discard. I’m inspired by the colors and how they play together. Some fabrics are hand-dyed or bleached. Some fragments are seamed together, others appliquéd. I use colored and metallic threads to ‘draw’ on the surface, maneuvering the collaged fabric under the needle, capturing shapes and designs. I then add yarn and beads and some pieces feature washers and other tiny metal finds from hardware stores that add unexpected bling when appliquéd, often with embroidery stitches. I continue embellishing with paint, a magical step, allowing me to highlight shapes and lines, create dappled light and unify the elements of a piece.

Pillows
I enjoy all kinds of arts and crafts, but most recently I have been working with fabric, threads and yarns. Like many other artists, nature is always my first and foremost inspiration. I draw on the many different landscapes here in the PNW. Amongst the chaos of nature are the most beautiful designs, patterns and colors in the world. In my attempt to replicate Mother Nature through art, both the chaos and the order gives me a way to express my connection to the earth.

Rice bags, wall banners
I love the simplicity of Asian art and how it makes a bold statement. I have a passion for abstract and unconventional designs that reveal something different to each person. I find myself especially inspired by the renowned improvisational Oregon quilt designer Jean Wells. It was liberating and made me realize I was able to be free in what I created.
