Electric Snails

61” x 81”
2023
$8600.00

Digital design, digital painting, digital printing, machine quilting. Cotton fabric, polyester & acrylic thread, cotton/bamboo batting

This is one of a series of quilts that combine zigzags, and curved shapes, in this case, logarithmic spirals. I turned my line drawing into separate shapes, and where the shapes crossed, I used different colors, which makes every shape appear transparent. The design was printed on cotton fabric by Spoonflower. It is wider than the standard Spoonflower fabric, so it was printed on two pieces of fabric and pieced together. Most of the piecing falls along the curving black lines. The quilting was done with many different thread colors and patterns. The binding strips were designed especially for this piece. The backing fabric is from my Atmosphere collection for Benartex.

Emotional Outburst

20” Wide X 11” High
2023
$350

Hand-dyed sculpted “tapa cloth” made with flax roving, crafted fiber beads, letter bead embellishments colored wire

To be human is to have emotions; and sometimes emotional outbursts of joy or anger happen. This piece throws subdued emotion aside to recognize the colors we may see and colorful words we may say during those times when I spirit breaks free.

The piece is made using hand-dyed flax roving to make ethereal fiber sheets akin to a tapa cloth that are sculpted into various shapes and set off with hand rolled fiber beads, colored wire, and letter beads.

Light Iris Art Yarn Scarf

10” x 72”
2022
$125

Materials and Techniques: Various traditional and art yarns in wool, silk, acrylic and banana leaf.  Woven on a Rigid Heddle Loom.

Statement: My first cool, grey and wet winter in the Pacific Northwest motivated me to visit places of vibrant color and happy smiles.  Local yarns shops cheered me up and inspired my new love of chunky, unique art yarns. After exploring various ways to incorporate these beautiful art yarns into wearable art, I discovered the Rigid Heddle Loom and fell in love.  My technique is to weave in a very loose style incorporating various types of wool, silk and novelty yarns.

Zen Salad

12” x 12” x 4” - freestanding
2023
$300.00

Materials and Techniques :

Bowl is constructed of wild cherry bark, cherry branch sticks and anodized aluminum wire. The stones were gathered on a local beach then wrapped in botanically dyed cane.

Statement :

A storm took down the cherry tree so to make the most of the tree I stripped the bark off when cutting it up for firewood. Cleaning up the bark revealed amazing color and texture reminiscent of silk taffeta. Building a bowl from the bark brought life back to the fallen tree - a gift from the forest. Beach walks always yield some kind of treasure, quite frequently stones to dress with cane and fill a bowl.
