Subject: Register Now for Art Course That Includes Guided Tour of Regional Artists’ Work

How artists, including fiber artists, use color is what participants in the six-week Northwind Art “Fundamentals of Art Part 2” course will review at their first session Monday, Feb. 5. With instructor Anne Pfeiffer, a Port Angeles artist, they will tour “Burst of Color,” the 80-piece exhibit by 37 members of Peninsula Fiber Artists at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery at 701 Water Street, Port Townsend.

Pfeiffer describes “Burst of Color” as, “A perfect intro to the Part 2 Fundamentals course that goes into composition in depth---contrast, movement, repetition and pattern, harmony, depth, balance-- and a good way to summarize the Part 1 course, which covered color, line, value, texture, shape and form.”

Registration is still open to those 18 and older for Part 2, for which Part 1 is not a prerequisite. Cost is $180. Most materials are provided. For more information, see https://northwindart.org/collections/courses/products/fundamentals-of-art-part-2.

Open to the public noon-5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays through Feb. 11, “Burst of Color” features art quilts, sculptures, jewelry and wearable art. Peninsula Fiber Artists will also exhibit at Sequim’s The Fifth Avenue April 2-29 and at Port Townsend’s Mead Werks at Wilderbee Farm August-October. The group’s meetings are open to area artists at no charge; see https://sda-np.com/meetings1 for schedule and locations.

Subject: Sequim, Port Ludlow Artists to Speak Jan. 13

Got a question for a textile artist? Get it answered Saturday, Jan. 13 when Peninsula Fiber Artists presents “A Chat with the Artists” from 2 to 3 p.m. at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St., Port Townsend.

Speaking will be four of the artists represented in “Burst of Color,” the PFA exhibit that is open Jan. 5-Feb. 11, Thursdays-Mondays, noon-5 p.m. Linda Carlson will discuss “Found Objects and Commonplace Materials;” Kathie Cook will address “Hand Piecing and Hand Quilting;” and Liisa Fagerlund will describe embellishments. All three are from Sequim. Pamela Raine, Port Ludlow, will speak on “Mixed Media.”

Audience questions will be welcome after each artist speaks briefly about one of her media.

“Burst of Color” includes more than 70 pieces from three dozen Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula artists: art quilts, textile sculptures, wearable art, collages and mixed media.

Established as a chapter of the international textile art group Surface Design Association, Peninsula Fiber Artists now offers a 24/7 walk-by exhibit at 675 Tyler St. in Uptown Port Townsend that changes every two months. “The Big Chill,” curated by Sequim’s Lora Armstrong, is scheduled for January-February. “Funky Ladies,” curated by Port Angeles artist Evette Allerdings, is scheduled for March. The group’s meetings, which alternate between the Northwind Art space at Fort Worden and the Gardiner Community Center, are open to area artists and craftspeople at no charge at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
