In this time of irregular quiet and apartness, this exhibit hopes to bring to you some consolation in a time of possible stress or worry, perhaps bringing back a warm memory of past times snuggling under a quilt at your Grandmother's home, giving rise to inspiration to create a quilt yourself or for someone else, or simply a moment's distraction to enjoy the creative hand of others.

These quilts are from the collections of members our peninsula chapter of the Surface Design Association.   Some were created by our members, a few were made by hands other than our own, but are treasured heirlooms. All are examples of comfort gained from the loving hands that made them and the warmth that they offer.

Elaine Girard: Indian Summer 64" X 62"  The quilt is an Indian Orange Peel pattern done using a scrappy design.

Caryl-Bryer Fallert-Gentry: Fibonacci10 30” x 30”

Caryl-Bryer Fallert-Gentry: Banoneon 30” x 30”

Cheri Kopp: Paisley on Plaid Flannel  56” x 72

Twice a Christmas gift for my husband Peter (cut fabric in 2000, finished quilt in 2001), we snuggle under this quilt in the winter.

Without a design in mind, I cut the triangles, selected pairs at random from a bag, stitched into squares and then arranged and rearranged on my design wall until I found the concentric diamonds layout. Machine quilted in an all-over paisley pattern.

Barbara Ramsey: It’s a really funky vintage quilt I bought at a St. Vincent de Paul in Spokane in about 1974. It’s composed of various rectangles of differently colored dark wools, and was obviously made from a sample book of men’s wool suiting materials. I’ve carefully preserved it for the past 45 years, carried it to both coasts, slept under it for ages, treasured it always. It’s worn and threadbare but still in one piece.

Sue Gale: My quilt was created out of a love of color and differences. I love elephants and their sense of family. This quilt was put together from this aspect. It was also one of my first attempts of meandering quilting.

Leslie Dickenson: I made the Queen size quilt on the right and had so many strips left over and decided to create a lap size quilt, on the left, for my husband to use in his recliner.  It is now one of his favorite quilts.
